Writing, Editing & Publishing Services

I began working in TTRPGs in 1999 with White Wolf Publishing. I went on to work as a writer for small-press comics, a curriculum writer and editor for educational media, a publishing consultant, and a technical writer.In addition to working on my own award-winning titles, I have contributed to other gaming projects, served as an editor and reviewer, and developed custom content for special events.

Editing Work

My experience as a copyeditor and development editor includes:

  • White Wolf Publishing: Editor for The Mind's Eye Theatre Journal and multiple titles in the Mind's Eye Theatre, Hunter: The Reckoning, and Vampire: The Dark Ages product lines.

  • Educational Media & Curriculum Development: Edited instructional materials and end-user technical documents for faculty and graduate and undergraduate students in business administration, computer science, social work, education, nursing, public health, and pharmacy degree programs.

Standard Rates

Copyediting: For a two-pass copyedit—one pass before the manuscript goes to layout and the second proofreading pass before the book or zine goes to press. $.05/word.Development Editing: Adding an initial editing pass focused on clarity, manuscript organization, and issues beyond the word, sentence, and paragraph level. $.08/word.Beta Reading: For a read-through of your manuscript (at any stage) followed by detailed comments, I also do beta-reading for $30/hour.

ePub & PDF Remediation

I have worked with game designers and university faculty to prepare ebooks in ePub and PDF format, ensuring digital document met accessibility standards and usability expectations.

  • R. Rook Studio: Developed accessible PDFs for all R. Rook Studio titles, and have added ePub and electronic document options for the top-selling titles.

  • Tome of Dark Delights: In collaboration with game designer and fiction writer Sharang Biswas, created an ePub and worked with the creator to host it on ebook marketplaces, including Draft2Digital and Amazon Kindle Direct.

  • RPG Printing Spree Kickstarter: Funds from the Kickstarter included PDF remediation for games and scenarios from David Schirduan, David Banner, and Giuliano Roverato.

  • Educational Media: Worked with college and university faculty to create accessible versions of PDFs, including converting simple scanned documents into new, accessible PDF formats.

Standard Rates

PDF Remediation: Service includes assessing and correcting reading order and internal tags for accessibility, adding alt text as needed, and creating bookmarks and internal ToC links: $20/ten pages.ePub Development: Creating an art-free or low-art ePub or other digital document for your readers? I can work with you to convert your existing documents to an accessible, usable format that your marketplaces can distribute. $30/hour.

Writing

I have been recognized for my work in setting development, alternative reality games and scavenger hunts, character creation systems, event- and group-specific custom content, and microfiction.Genres I work in include horror, historical fantasy, urban fantasy, and paranormal romance.

  • R. Rook Studio: Since 2020, developed a catalog of stand-alone games and scenarios, including the award-winning Moonlight on Roseville Beach.

  • Clear Keep: Contributed to Sunken and Black Mold of Claus Manor.

  • Wet Ink Games: Contributed to the forthcoming game Garbage & Glory.

  • Exalted Funeral: Developed and co-published the chivalric adventure game My Chivalric Bromance.

  • Plus One EXP: Developed and co-published the forthcoming revised version of the post-apocalyptic Oz adventure game Dark Designs in Verdigris.

  • Twenty Sided Store & Events: Co-wrote the interactive scavenger hunt and performance event Varda's Sacred Key with Lauren Bilanko for over 100 players.

  • White Wolf Publishing: Contributed to Mummy: The Resurrection, Tradition Book: Celestial Chorus (Revised), and titles for Aberrant.

Standard Rates

Writing: Depending on project length and the amount of research and playtesting required, my rates are flexible, starting at $.10/word.

Other Consulting

In addition to writing, editing, and ebook production, I have worked with small publishers and event spaces to assist with operations, convention presence, workshops, and special projects.

  • R. Rook Studio: Ran five Kickstarters and two Itchfunding campaigns.

  • Plus One EXP: Manage accounts payable and consignment and publishing partner contracts. Assist with convention presence, including booth setup, point of sale management, press contacts, and developing events to host Plus One EXP's games.

  • Twenty Sided Store & Events: Assistant organizer for crowdfunding for The Reverie Deck, instructor for New GM classes, leader for writers' productivity workshop. Worked with staff to develop annual Free RPG Day programming.

Consulting: Depending on project complexity and the amount of technical skill required, my rates are flexible, starting at $35/hour.

Zine Quest & Zine Month 2025

Depending on schedule and complexity, I can offer editing rates as low as $.03/word, writing at $.08/word, and consulting as low as $25/hour. Please get in touch as soon as you can!
